Passiflora Extract
"For nutraceutical use, Alchem offers Passiflora Extract with all its inherent benefits"
Passiflora incarnata, commonly known as maypop, purple passionflower, true passionflower, wild apricot, and wild passion vine, is a fast growing perennial vine with climbing or trailing stems. A member of the passionflower genus Passiflora, the maypop has large, intricate flowers with prominent styles and stamens. Passionflower contains several active constituents, including the flavonoids apigenin, luteolin, quercetin, kaempferol, and vitexin. The harman alkaloids identified in passionflower include harmine, harmaline, harmalol, harman, and harmin. Other constituents include maltol and ethyl maltol. This extract exhibits sedative, hypnotic, anxiolytic, analgesic, and antispasmodic effects.
Several flavonoids such as Vitexin, Isovitexin, Chrysin, Orientin, isolated from the above-ground portions of the Passion Flower plant exhibit a sedative effect in the central nervous system. Chrysin is a monoflavonoid, considered to be the primary active component derived from Passion Flower. Scientists have demonstrated that Chrysin works as a partial agonist of the central benzodiazepine receptors in the brain. Although the precise mechanism of action is not clearly understood, it is thought that the combination of Flavonoids in Passion Flower contribute to its effectiveness as an anxiolytic, helping to promote relaxation, soothe tension and relieve occasional anxiety and panic caused by emotional stress.
Orally, passionflower is used for insomnia, gastrointestinal (GI) upset related to anxiety or nervousness, generalized anxiety disorder (GAD), and symptoms of opiate withdrawal. Passionflower is also used orally for neuralgia, generalized seizures, hysteria, spasmodic asthma, climacteric (menopausal) symptoms, attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), nervousness and excitability, palpitations, cardiac rhythm abnormalities, high blood pressure, fibromyalgia, and pain relief.
The product addresses broad spectrum physiological concerns and has the band width and capabilities to meet expectations. Regular use should exhibit demonstrable results to inhibit various health related issues.
